Viktoria joined Jumio as a part-time HR admin in November 2017. She has been working full-time as a recruitment business partner since October 2021.
Q: What does your role involve?

I’m a recruitment business partner at Jumio, mainly responsible for tech hiring in EMEA. That means I manage the end-to-end recruitment process for active and passive candidates, come up with sourcing strategies to find the right talent, and find out in what way their skills and experience match our open positions. I also take care of employer branding topics as much as possible as it’s tightly connected to recruitment.

Q: Before Jumio, did you have similar experiences at previous companies or was this fairly new to you when you started?

I only had internship experience under my belt working over the summer in a bigger Austrian corporation. Starting at Jumio was completely different compared to that in terms of pace and responsibilities. It was much faster than I was used to and there was a lot to learn. It hasn’t become boring in the least though.

Q: What are the most interesting / fun bits of the role?

Through the nature of my role I get to speak with people from all over the world to understand what they’ve done so far and where they want to go next. It’s often like looking for a missing puzzle piece and I’m sure you can imagine how satisfying it is to find who you were looking for and everything comes together. Making the teams happy in the process by finding the right person is always the cherry on top.

Q: What’s the secret to being good at your job?

I find that every person has the potential to surprise me in the best way possible. I try to always go into a first call with an open mind and be conscious of any bias I could have. You often can’t tell from a CV whether the applicant is a fit or not so not judging someone too quickly is very important.

Q: What didn’t you expect about the role / what surprised you most?

When I started out at Jumio I didn’t know that I would end up loving it as much as I do now. To me it was a part-time job which I did besides studying at first. It has become so much more in just the first few months and the people I get to work with are some of the most motivated and passionate people I’ve ever met.

Q: How have you been able to progress your career or learn new things at Jumio?

At first I was working more on the “classic” HR side of things at just 15 hours per week. I’ve moved from there to specialize in tech recruitment. I learned more about time management and communication but also started to understand more about the technical aspects of each role which was a big step for me as I don’t have a technical background. I still learn something new every day.

Q: What would you say to potential employees wanting to work at Jumio? What qualities should they have?

If you know what you can and can’t do, what you want to do next, and how to communicate all of that you’ll fit right in. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about anything ever. This is how we continuously achieve one of our IDEALs, Leading Innovation.
